The cards today I made for some relatives so that I could send some photos of the girls and write a little message in the card to send with them.
For the cards I punched out some hearts in different papers and a label for the sentiment to go on.
The cards are very similar except on the first one I used an embossing folder on the background and used the Basic Grey Lemonade papers on it. I stuck the hearts down before putting it through the embossing folder so it emboss the hearts too.

Shared Girls Room Inspiration

With having 2 girls and living in a 2 bedroom house, the girls were inevitably going to share a room.
Amelia is 5 1/2 months and I think now is the perfect time to move Amelia in with Hollie. Hollie has known and understood that this would happen from the beginning. She has been looking forward to sharing with her sister.
I thought I would show you a few of the things I think would be good in the room.
Curtains - Dunhelm | Light shade - Dunhelm | Bunk-bed - Argos | Wardrobe - Ikea | Rug - Ikea | Mint paint - B and Q | Yellow paint - B and Q | Chest of drawers - Ikea | Lamp - Next.
In the room is three yellow walls and one bright pink and I want to keep the yellow walls and change the bright pink wall to mint green so that it brightens up the room and make it look bigger. There will be some pink in the accessories including the lights and the bedding so didn't want the walls to be pink as well.
Hollie already has a bunk-bed that we bought at the end of last year and I made sure we got a white one so that it would blend in more with the room as it's such a large tall piece of furniture. Amelia's cot bed, which was Hollies, is antique pine so will break up the white furniture a bit and when she is bigger she will be able to go on the bottom of the bunk-bed.
At the moment, as the cot bed is going in the room, we can only fit in the wardrobe but eventually we will put in a chest of drawers too.
The room is an average size second bedroom for an English house but with the bunk-bed it seems quite small so don't want to make it too cluttered and hopefully keep a little bit of space in between the bunk-bed and the cot bed.
I will show you the photos of the room when it is complete or as near as it can be!

How to use Kam pliers and toy strap tutorial

Recently I have been making things using the Kam pliers and I thought I would show you how they are used in case anyone would like to know.
I bought the Kam pliers from Ebay in a set with the accessories that you need to work the pliers and pack of snap poppers in 2 sizes in 10 colours. I got them via auction for £8.99. You can find the Kam pliers and poppers separately on Ebay and you can also find lots of different sets. There are some nice sets with everything you need including ribbon.
These are the tools that you get with the pliers.
I got 4 sizes of the black caps for the front of the snap poppers and 2 sizes of the metal bolt and rubber cap. You need to make sure you are using the correct size black cap with the correct popper and also the correct size metal bolt and rubber cap with the correct size back popper.
The snap poppers come with a front part and 2 different back parts, You need to use a different back part to snap them together.
I did found it difficult to understand how to use the Kam pliers as they didn't come with instructions, I learnt as I was going along and from on the Internet. In the set is a small screwdriver and you need this for the 2 screws that you need to alter in the picture.
To make the toy strap you need have a length of ribbon, in this case I had a 12 inch piece of ribbon. Fold over the ends approx 1/2 inch and then pierce the top part of the popper in the ribbon and place the back of popper on the back. Use the pliers to squeeze them together.
Make sure you use enough pressure so that the spike is squashed enough so the other side of the snap popper will snap on it properly. It did take a few goes to realise how much I needed to squeeze it.
Once you have done this popper you can add one further along the ribbon to make the loop. Make sure you use the opposite back side of the popper and make sure the fronts of the poppers are facing the same way.
When you have finished the poppers, I added a little bit of glue to the end of the ribbon to stop them fraying but could use a lighter to seal the ends too.
The toy strap is easy to make but the pliers did take me a while to work out what size is for which popper etc. and I did go though a few poppers before I worked out what I was doing wrong.

The card today is a really simple lazy card and it doesn't involve any stamps.
I needed to make a card with a name on it and didn't have any stamps big enough so I just created one in Microsoft word and then printed it on some card. The font is Scriptina, love this font.
To embellish the card, I punched out some butterflies and flowers from some Martha Stewart punches in different patterned papers, added some little gems to the centre of the flowers and butterflies and I put them on some glue dots to make them more dimensional.

I really liked the way this card turned out with the style of the font and the patterned papers. I have a feeling I may be making more quick cards like this too.

Amelia's 5 month update

I thought I would start doing updates on Amelia to capture how much she changes.
Amelia was 5 months on the 25th June. It has gone fast and I am trying to make sure I enjoy the moments with her as it's so easy to get caught up with life.
She was weighed on Monday and weighs 16lbs 7oz and is still on the 75th centile.
We give her 5 7oz bottles a day but she drinks about 3 1/2 to 4 of them.
She hasn't started weaning yet but I can't see it being long before she will. I am aiming for 6 months as they can eat mashed food rather than puréed food at that age. I am going to start putting her in her high chair (well, Hollie's high chair) to get used to it.
She is still in 3-6 months clothes but I don't think it will be long before she is in 6-9 months.
She loves to smile and laugh especially with her sister and has begun to cry when I leave the room.
Amelia isn't interested in crawling or turning over etc. yet but would like to sit up rather than leaning on a cushion although she doesn't have the strength to stay sitting up yet.
She also loves to take her socks off.
Her latest trick is to shake her head and it tends to be just at the right time like when we are asking a question!
Amelia still has reflux but it is slightly better at the moment and she doesn't get pain with it and she dribbles a lot with teething as I mentioned in this post.
She sleeps through the night and has done since she was 8 weeks old which was the same with Hollie. I definitely don't take this for granted as I know this can change at any moment especially as she is teething and does wake maybe once or twice in the night due to teething but settles herself quite quickly.
We are beginning to see Amelia's character coming out (look at the cheeky smile!) and look forward to seeing what she gets up to next.

Altering bibs with the snap poppers

For a long time now, Amelia has had reflux and brings up a lot of milk after her feeds and also with teething, she dribbles a lot too.
Luckily, the reflux doesn't seem to give her any problems but obviously the teething givers her some trouble.
The problem I have is that the bibs that I saved from Hollie and even some of the bibs Amelia got new, were too big around the neck and wouldn't catch the sick or dribble (nice!).
So I did think about buying new bibs but I just couldn't justify buying news bibs and trying to find ones that were smaller, if that was even possible. So I decided to add a snap popper using the Kam pliers to each of the bibs to make them smaller. All I did was measure where the snap popper needed to be when the bib was on and then added one.
Such a simple thing has helped me solve a problem that was annoying me and helps me if the bibs stretch a bit in the future.
