Comparing to Others and Changes
Monday, March 23, 2015
I've been blogging for 5 years now. I can't believe I started back in March 2010, it's crazy.
I have loved to blog about the projects I have done over the years but I have struggled to actually write posts and keep up with a schedule, which is something I really wanted to do.
There are several reasons why I think this has happened. First being that it is so easy to compare your own blog to others that are more successful. Secondly, having a 7 year old and now a 1 year old, it's so hard to get time to take photos, write a post etc for the blog. Thirdly, partly because of the other reasons, I find it hard to focus on the blog and post. I tinker away at the blog design now and again but writing blog posts seems to hit a brick wall!
I have quite a few different topics that I have blogged about but have found it hard when it comes to writing a blog post on a card that I have made and then writing a post on a project I have done, not sure why. Maybe it's because some people will be interested in the card and some the project and I feel they are too different a topic.
So to try and help me with blogging more I have decided to make another blog called Pretty Sweet Lovely where I can write about the cards that I have made and then keep this blog for the other topics that flow a bit more together, like organisation, projects, home decor, parenting and posts on life.
I really hope that this will help in releasing the fog that seems to have gathered over the blog for me!
So if you are interested in the cards that I made then please go and have a look at Pretty Sweet Lovely and I hope that you will keep visiting here at My May Sunshine too.
The Summer Tag
Tuesday, June 17, 2014
I saw Lulu from A Mummas Time Out do the summer tag recently and I thought I would have ago at it and give you a little more insight into me! Here are my answers.
What's your favourite thing about summer?
My favourite thing is being able to escape the house more and the lighter evenings.
Do you have a favourite summer drink?
I would say that I drink more fruit juice and a lot more water in the summer.
Is there a location you like to go to each summer?
We love going to Bournemouth / Poole area. We love the beaches and the scenery around that area and we have family down that way too.
Favourite make-up look for summer?
I just go for light make up in the summer including a light foundation, cream eye shadow and a little bit of blusher.
Dresses or skirts?
Hmm, I would say skirts as I think I only have one dress but I rarely wear skirts either. Can't even remember the last time I did.
Sandals or ballet pumps?
Sandals. I live in them in the summer but wear ballet pumps a lot too. Oh and I wear flip flops a lot too.
Do you prefer to wear your hair up or down for summer?
I wear my hair down most of the time unless it is really hot and sticky.
Deep smokey eyes or bold lips?
Deep smokey eyes. I wear mainly neutral lipsticks and lip glosses.
Favourite perfume for the summer?
I love the Lily perfume by Stella McCartney at the moment which is quite a deep perfume. Usually I wear Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle or Narciso Rodriguez. Love them all year round.
Last but not least, favourite music for the summer?
I love listening to all sorts of music and you know there are songs that just remind you of summer but might not for others? Those songs. They just bring a smile to my face straight away.
Love the summer. My favourite time of the year (hence why it is in my blog title!). If you fancy doing the summer tag, leave a link to your answers and I would love to see them.
Changing things up.
Sunday, May 04, 2014
I just wanted let you know that I am doing some changes to my blog as I really want to get back into blogging and have been at a standstill with the blog.
I had some good news a few weeks ago that I don't have to have an operation that I thought I would have to have so I feel it's time to change things up a bit. I have tended to write blog posts about the cards I make and now and again about home decor or organising, well hopefully from now on, the blog posts could be about any of the things that I love to write about like crafting, organising, home decor, inspiration and general life blog posts.
So I hope that you will stick with me while I find my feet again and I looking forward to giving my blog a bit more focus.
Hope that you are having a good weekend and see you soon.
Happy Anniversary
Saturday, April 12, 2014
Today is my 7th wedding anniversary and I wanted to share the card I made for my husband.
I have mentioned in previous years that we got married in Malta with our closest family and absolutely loved it there. It is something I would recommend to anyone not wanting to get married abroad. It was a lovely day and a lovely holiday.
Anyway back to the card. I chose the paper first and went with the Studio Calico Darling Dear and Here & There. On one of the pieces from the Darling Dear pad is a lot of images and one of the images was this one with the words you & me and I thought it would be perfect for the centre of the card.
I decided to put it on a label from Clearly Besotted lovely labels and rather than using the rectangle it comes with for the centre I thought the square fitted well.
As I am loving the Happy word die from Clearly Besotted I used it here with the word anniversary from the Clearly Besotted Basic numbers and stamped it on a tag from the Clearly Besotted tag along dies.
I decided to use an embossing folder on the background and add some stars and hearts as well.
Paper - Studio Calico Darling Dear and Here & There | Stamp - Clearly Besotted Basic Numbers | Dies - Clearly Besotted Lovely labels, Tag along and happy word die | Embossing folder - Cuttlebug Seeing spots | Large stars - Sizzix stars.
I got a lovely card and pretty flowers from my husband for our anniversary but it was prompted by a few people as he didn't even get me a card for Mother's day but mustn't complain (much!). Hehe.
Hope you are having a great weekend. See you soon.
Baby Amelia
Thursday, March 20, 2014
It's been a while since I have posted on the blog as I have been looking after my little girl who is now 7 weeks old. The time has gone so quickly that I didn't get around to posting about it.
Her name is Amelia Grace and was born on the 25th January weighing a big 9lb 4oz. This, however, is smaller than Hollie was at 9lb 14oz!
Here is a picture of Amelia on her way home from hospital at 2 days old.
This is Amelia at 5 weeks.
Obviously I haven't managed to do much crafting recently but hopefully will be able to make some more cards and projects soon, but I do have some cards that I made before I gave birth that I haven't posted on the blog that I will be posting soon.
Hope you are having a lovely week. See you soon.
Where have I been?
Saturday, August 03, 2013
It's been a long time since I last posted anything but if you follow me on Instagram, then you will have seen this picture.
I found out I was pregnant the day after my dad's funeral and ever since then I have suffered from bad nausea, sickness, heartburn and acid reflux. It's been quite a tough few months but these common first trimester symptoms are beginning to ease as I am now 16 and a half weeks.
Although these are easing, I have been suffering more with anxiety and low mood associated with antenatal depression. I have been feeling very restless, not sleeping and eating, crying alot and not able to concentrate on things - hence why there has been nothing on the blog. First thing in the morning tends to be the worse though.
I have to wait until the end of the month to see a specialist who can help me, so in the mean time, I have been trying to get a grip on my emotions and my thoughts with the help of my family and my midwife.
I truly hope to be able to post more on the blog and make more cards and crafts so that it acts as a kind of therapy for me.
So for now on there could be alsorts of posts on the blog as I try to make my way through this pregnancy including crafts, cards, home decor and more personal ones.
To those that are reading this post, I hope you don't mind me writing this but I felt I needed to get this off my chest and to help me move on.
I hopefully will be back soon with some cards I have made in the last few months.
Hope you are having a great day.
2013 Goals
Wednesday, January 02, 2013
This year I wanted to make some goals but didn't want them to be anything like do more exercise or snack less, I wanted them to be achievable!
I wrote this motto in 2011 and I try to look at it regularly to remind me of the sentences especially if I am sinking a bit in life or struggling, but these word mean a lot to me.
So my goals for this year are:
- Meal Planning. Really want to make sure we as a family try to eat better but with three very different eaters, its proves very difficult. I have an intolerance to oil and milk, my husband is soooo fussy with food and my daughter is kind of following in his footsteps, so it makes my life hard.
- Cleaning Routine. I recently bought a cleaning printable from Jen at I Heart Organizing, so would like to put that into action as my house isn't very big but with a nearly 5 year old and a husband who hinders my cleaning and can trash the house very quickly, this is a must for me.
- Garden. When the weather is better, I really want to get onto sorting the garden. It isn't too bad but has a one plant in the back garden and 4 in the front. I may love the simplicity but it is lifeless.
- Finances. Need to sort out the bills and the paperwork too.
- Hollies learning. Hollie is doing really well in her first year at school and really want to help her with her literacy and numeracy.
- Stop procrastinating. This is a BIG one for me. I love to organise but it can take along time to actually complete the task I want to do so I have been sorting out some planners and printables to keeps me on task, especially for the blog and tasks I want to complete.
I think that they are achievable goals and something that I can get something back from.
If you have made some resolutions or goals this year, I would love to hear them in the comments.
