Craft Room Organisation - Stamp Storage

Wednesday, February 29, 2012

When it comes to organising stamps, there are plenty of different ways to store stamps.
I knew that I needed a way that wouldn't take up much room and would fit neatly on a shelf.

I mainly have clear stamps and only 2 sets of rubber stamps, so the main priority was to store the clear stamps.

I chose to use A5 ring binders for the clear stamps. I have 1 binder for sentiments and alphabets and 1 for image stamps.

The binders were boring black so I decided to jazz them up using Echo Parks A Walk In The Park papers and then added a label to the side using a Spellbinders Nestabilities lacey circle die and creating a label on my computer to put on top of it.

To store the stamps inside the binders, I used some A5 plastic pockets. I stuck the stamps to some card and added a label on the back of the card with the name of the stamp set.

The ring binders are a simple way to store stamps and keep them neat and organised.

These stamps have yet to be added to the binders as I have only just received them from Skipping Stones Designs. I won them in the sketch challenge 114 that I entered this card. I am looking forward to using them.

So, when it came to storing the rubber stamps, I wasn't sure how I could store them.

I saw that people were storing them in DVD style cases and some stamps come in them. I thought I would try using old video cassette cases.

I managed to dig out 2 cases for my 2 Amy R stamp sets and they fit quite well in them.

They sit neatly on the shelf and I just printed off some labels, for the side of the cases, using Microsoft Word.

So those are the ways I store my stamps, how do you store yours?

Mojo Monday Sketch 230 - Well Done Card

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

Yesterday my sister passed her driving test after taking it for the second time. The first test was only a few weeks ago but she had only had her tonsils out a few weeks before and was very uncomfortable afterwards so I wanted to make her a little card to say well done and to show her that we are proud of her.

This weeks sketch 230 at Mojo Monday is a non traditional one of either a square or round, so I decided to make a round card for her.

I used the Spellbinders Nestabilities largest Lacey Circle to make the card base and cut 2 pieces and just score one piece to attach to the back of the other piece so the card would stand up properly.

Paper - Echo Park Summer Days | Stamps - Hero Arts and Clare Curd/Papermania | Card shape - Nestabilities Spellbinder Lacey Circle | Circle  - Spellbinder Nestabilities | Border Punch - Martha Stewart Doily Lace | Large flowers - EK success | Gems and ribbon - Local Craft Shop | Ink - Versamagic

Tomorrow I will be back with the second part of my Craft Room Organisation. See you soon.

Mojo Monday sketch 217

Monday, February 27, 2012

Now and again I like to make some cards that I can put aside to use in presents and gifts. This card being one of them, I decided to look at the past Mojo Monday sketches to get inspiration and chose the sketch 217.

Paper - Cosmo Cricket De Lovely | Stamp - Paula Pascual All Year Round | Twine - The Ribbon Reel | Scallop Circle - Template | Doily - Local craft shop | Border Punch - Fiskars Apron Lace | Butterfly Punch - Martha Stewart | Gems - Local craft shop.

I wanted to add the doily to the card but it was quite a large doily so I just cut it down and inked the edges slightly and as the card has quite a lot of colour and pattern, I chose to keep the sentiment simple.

P.S tomorrow is my birthday and I will be 29. I don't have a problem with telling people my age.

P.P.S  Wednesday is the second part of the Craft Room Organisation.

See You Soon.

Mojo Monday Sketch 229

Friday, February 24, 2012

I needed to make a card for one of my nephews this week and decided to use the Mojo Monday sketch 229.  I love using these sketches as have great layouts and are great for creating inspiration. Also, I love the My Mind's Eye papers as they are so full of colour and pattern, it has been a lot easier to make masculine cards.

Paper - My Mind's Eye Fly a kite | Stamp - Sentiment = Amy R It's Your Birthday and star = Banana Frog Super Stars | Twine - The Ribbon Reel .

Have a great weekend.

There will be more Craft Room Organisation next week.

Craft Room Organisation - Ribbon Storage

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

To start off the series on Craft Room Organisation, I thought I would show you how I store my ribbons.

I started off with a aqua canvas basket that I can just slip on and off my shelves. I bought it from TK Maxx last year and it is the perfect depth for the shelf.

To store the ribbon in the basket, I bought 10 plastic envelope wallets from Staples but they were A4 size which didn't quite fit in the basket and allow me to store extra ribbon reels, so I cut a piece off each side of the wallet and sewed the sides up using my sewing machine.

When it came to putting the ribbons into the wallets, I didn't just want to throw them in as I knew I wouldn't use them if they were not easy to look at. I decided to use a piece of card and just wrap it around the rolled ribbon and secure it with some tape. I could have used a pin or tape but as I don't have too much ribbon, I wanted to look after what I have.

Next I just separated the colours and put them in the wallets. I put the yellow and orange in one wallet as I don't have as much of those but the rest have one wallet each.

So as you can see in the above photos, I have added a label to each wallet with the colour of the ribbon inside. This helps when I am looking in the basket and can just quickly look at the label.

I just put the wallets in the basket and down the side are extra ribbons on reels.

The basket fits neatly on the shelf next to my binder with scrap paper in.

So now you have seen how I store my ribbons. It works for me as I don't have massive amount of ribbons . I have been using it like this for a while now but whether it is a long term thing, only time will tell.

Let me know what you think? If you have lots of ribbons or just a few, how do you store yours?
