Craft Room Organisation - Ribbon Storage

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

To start off the series on Craft Room Organisation, I thought I would show you how I store my ribbons.

I started off with a aqua canvas basket that I can just slip on and off my shelves. I bought it from TK Maxx last year and it is the perfect depth for the shelf.

To store the ribbon in the basket, I bought 10 plastic envelope wallets from Staples but they were A4 size which didn't quite fit in the basket and allow me to store extra ribbon reels, so I cut a piece off each side of the wallet and sewed the sides up using my sewing machine.

When it came to putting the ribbons into the wallets, I didn't just want to throw them in as I knew I wouldn't use them if they were not easy to look at. I decided to use a piece of card and just wrap it around the rolled ribbon and secure it with some tape. I could have used a pin or tape but as I don't have too much ribbon, I wanted to look after what I have.

Next I just separated the colours and put them in the wallets. I put the yellow and orange in one wallet as I don't have as much of those but the rest have one wallet each.

So as you can see in the above photos, I have added a label to each wallet with the colour of the ribbon inside. This helps when I am looking in the basket and can just quickly look at the label.

I just put the wallets in the basket and down the side are extra ribbons on reels.

The basket fits neatly on the shelf next to my binder with scrap paper in.

So now you have seen how I store my ribbons. It works for me as I don't have massive amount of ribbons . I have been using it like this for a while now but whether it is a long term thing, only time will tell.

Let me know what you think? If you have lots of ribbons or just a few, how do you store yours?

  2. Your storage looks great and takes up a lot less room than the box I've got mine in!

  3. Nice! I store mine in just the fabric bin, but then I don't have as many. This is a great idea.

  4. I have quite a few spools of ribbon, so, I have put a couple of rods on the wall, with very inexpensive curtain rod clips, and dowels which I painted. I just slip the spools on the rods, and then I can cut off what I need. They are a colorful wall decoration and save a lot of space.
