Day out at Fineshade Woods
Thursday, May 28, 2015
Yesterday we went on a little journey to somewhere we hadn't been before. We went to the other side of the county to a place called Fineshade Woods in East Northamptonshire.
It is a lovely wood with lots of trails for walking and cycling and has some playgrounds for the kids too.
There was an activity trail around the wood for the kids to follow and keep them entertained. Hollie loved finding the next clue.
One of the playgrounds was called tree house and was a wooden climbing frame that Hollie enjoyed.
There is a lovely cafe and barns with lots of seating to eat and relax.
The second playground was bigger and also better for Amelia to play on.
They both enjoyed the slide and Hollie enjoyed the hammock too.
It's great to find somewhere different to visit and it was great to see that it was well maintained and looked really pretty. We will be back again sometime to investigate more of the trails.

Hair accessory display
Friday, May 15, 2015
There are so many pretty hair accessories around these days that it is so easy to get carried away buying them. We have a fair few in our house, having two girls and they can just sit in a box or just lay around the house sometimes and not have a clue what we actually have.
Me being into crafts and making things, I decided to make a display for them!
I wasn't sure at first what kind of display I wanted to go with and looked at lots of ideas on Pinterest but in the end I decided to stick with a canvas frame.
Using a canvas meant that I didn't have to paint a frame and it wouldn't be open in the centre but was still sturdy enough to hold the clips.
I bought some ribbon from Hobbycraft that was 16mm wide and went with a grosgrain ribbon as it is thicker than a silk ribbon. I just spaced them out alternatively on the canvas and then secured them with some push pins to the back of the canvas.
The canvas is quite a big one as I wanted to use it for both the girls and chose to add their initials, one either side of the canvas. I bought some wooden letters while in Hobbycraft and painted them with normal matt emulsion, one pink and one mint green.
I wanted to add some sparkle to the letters so added some glitter paint to the letters. It worked really well. To secure the letters to the canvas I used some tacky glue.
To hang the canvas up on the wall, I added some ribbon secured by more push pins.
When I had rounded up most of the hair clips and bows, I added them to the canvas. Although they are on separates sides, Hollie has worn some of Amelia's pretty bow clips too!
I really hope that this canvas helps with keeping the girls hair accessories more organised, well we can try!
Do you think is a good idea to organise hair accessories? Would you try making one? Let me know what you think.

Sibling age gaps, does it matter?
Tuesday, May 05, 2015
Sooner or later after having your first child everyone gets on the bandwagon of asking 'when are you having another child?'
This question is usually really hard to answer while you try to adapt to having a baby around and especially if your first child doesn't sleep well and has been harder than you expected.
For us, there is 6 years between our first and second child. This wasn't going to be the case as I got pregnant when Hollie was 2 but I miscarried at 8 weeks which was very painful and hard to deal with.
Although I wanted a second child, deep down I knew I wasn't ready to have another child while Hollie was still little. I didn't feel I could cope with 2 children with under 3 and it took me a long time to feel ready to have another child as I feared I would miscarry if I wasn't completely ready.
When we were ready to have another child, Hollie was 5 and had settled in at school. This was the right time for us to have another child and kind of felt like it was meant to be!
To some people this age gap would be too big but when you look at families in society and how they all differ, you begin to wonder 'what is the ideal age gap?'
There are so many reasons for larger age gaps like miscarriage, step families and lifestyle changes. We just adapt to the life we have.
I know families where the age gap is 12 months and it was hard when they were little but as they have gotten past being teenagers, they get on well.
It is like me and my sister. There is 11 years between us and she is my half sister but she is like full sister to me and is now my best friend but when we were little it was really hard so it doesn't necessarily make a difference.
Whether there is an age gap of 1 year or 15 years, it doesn't have to matter. I am so thankful that I have my 2 girls as I know life is so precious and we just adjust to what life brings us.
Do you have an ideal age gap? Does it matter? Let me know your thought on this, I would love to hear.
