DIY Kids Ikea table & chair

When Hollie was little we bought her the wooden svala table and chairs from Ikea and over the years it has been drawn all over and stained, as you can see from the Instagram photo below!
I decided to jazz them up and make them pretty but also didn't want to spend too much money on it as it will get drawn on again soon enough!
With one of the chairs at grandma's, I just had the table and one chair to paint. I decided to paint the table white and the chair pink as the wood was unfinished. They don't sell these any more and the nearest is this table and this chair which are already white.
I painted the table with a white satin paint from Wilkinsons and then varnished it with a basic clear satin varnish from Wilkinsons too. I just bought small tins of these as didn't want to buy big tins just for this task.
I think it worked out well as I know they will get bashed in no time so didn't want to spend too much time or money on them.
I have a couple of other Ikea items I want to paint so when they have been finished I will show them on the blog. I am on a bit of white paint kick at the moment so who knows what I will end up painting next!
3D Name Frames

I have spent a long time trying to sort out the girls room and the decor that goes in there. I really wanted to put up some frames with their names in them and decided to make them 3D.
I went with the Ribba frames from Ikea as I love these frames and have them in all different sizes as I have used them here, here and here!
I typed out the names in Microsoft Word and them printed them on some heavy weight paper but you could use regular if you are careful or card.
As I have a lot of different craft punches, I decided to make use of them and punched out some butterflies, flowers and hearts to decorate the picture.
I also added a little pink gem on the letter I to add some colour.
I made sure that they were 3D and added some gems to some of them to add some bling.
I decided to hang the frames close together with some of the other decor I had put up as well.

Ombre Butterfly Mobile

I have gradually been trying to sort the girls room out by rearranging the furniture and organising it. Now that I have the furniture where I want it (for the time being anyway), I wanted to do some projects.
One project that I wanted to do was to make another butterfly mobile like the one I made a few years ago.
The first one I made was all white and used two embroidery hoops. I decided to use another embroidery hoop for this mobile but I only had one as I was trying to use what I already had and I think it looks better with one anyway.
The butterflies were punched out of three different coloured card, a light, medium and a dark, to create an ombre effect to the mobile and I used a large Martha Stewart Monarch butterfly punch. I love this punch as it creates a more detailed butterfly than the one I used before.
To attach the butterflies to the mobile, I used some thin white cotton thread. I just tied the thread to the embroidery hoop.
To create the ombre effect I started with the darker butterflies at the top and then the middle colour and then the lightest at the bottom.
To attach the butterflies I used a glue dot in the middle of one butterfly, stuck it to the thread where I wanted to position it and then stuck another butterfly to it in the same position and then bent the butterfly to make it look like it was flying.
I really like the ombre effect as it adds more character to it.
I think this mobile as really easy to make and can be done in stages if you haven't got a lot of time in one go.
It would make a nice feature in a bedroom or playroom and you could change the butterflies to another shape like stars which I have done when I made one for my nephew.

Handmade photo album

I love to give family and friends photos of the girls and for Christmas I decided to make some handmade photo albums to put some photos in and give as presents.
To make the photo album I used a 9 1/4 x 5" piece of card and a 6 1/4 x 5" card.
On the large piece, I scored it at 1" and 2" on the 9 1/4" side. Fold over the card at the 2" mark to make the album spine. Adhere the front piece to the back piece on the first inch of the card.
To store the photos in the album, I added some clear card envelopes to the inside of the album. I just stacked them on top of each other until you have the amount you want and fit in the album and then adhered them into the album back piece.
Next I punched 2 holes to secure the clear envelopes into the album and then added some ribbon.
On the front of the albums, I used some patterned papers from My Mind's Eye. I added a label from Spellbinders Nestabilities Label eight and stamped the word photos on to it. I punched out some flowers and butterflies using some Martha Stewart punches.
To jazz up the butterflies and flowers, I added some pearl gems.
These photo albums were quite easy to make and I think they make a cute little gift if you want to give a selection of photos but don't want to use a whole big album.

Gift wrap box

For a few of the people that I needed to buy presents for, for Christmas, I decided to make them a gift wrap box for them.
I started off with a white box from Ikea and simply added a label to the front of the box with the words gift wrap stamped on it. I decided to keep the outside of the box simple so that it could fit in with any decor.
This is what I added to the box.
I started by adding a few stationery pieces like scissors, tape, binder clips, a notebook, pen and post it notes. I added some twine, some labels that could be used on presents, envelopes etc and some pretty washi tape.
I put in some tissue paper in a few colours and also put in some paper bags that I just added some patterned paper to, to jazz them up a bit.
A long with these items, I decided to make some cards and some gift tags too. I made some female that had bows and butterflies on and then some masculine cards with banners on. I made some gift tags with a punched heart or flower and added some bakers twine to them.
I wanted to add more but didn't get the time and I thought that they could add things to the box they already have or get in the future and then can keep it altogether.
I think that a gift wrap box is a great gift and the people I gave it to loved it.

Tassel Garland Tutorial

Today I am going to show you how I made the tassel garland that I made for Amelia's first birthday on Sunday.
I picked up these tissue papers in a local card shop and really loved the colours especially the mint green. I also found some washi tape in my stash that match quite well.
I cut the tissue paper into strips. I think I took the harder route of making the tassel's like this rather than keeping the tissue paper whole and cutting strips into it, but I started it like this so continued.
Next I gathered some of the strips and folded them in half and taped them up making a little loop of the top to thread the yarn though to hang it up.
I just added the tassel's to some yarn and put the yarn through the loop twice so keep the tassel's in place.
I hung the garland up under some shelves above my dining table and placed the yarn number one that I showed on Wednesday, above the garland.
I really like the colour combinations of the tassel garland and the yarn number and worked well with the stone colour of the wall.
It was so easy to make, adds a lovely pop of colour and you could make one for any occasion.
This, like the yarn number, will probably be put on a wall in the girls room to add some more colour.
