Magical birthday wishes fairy card

Thursday, January 31, 2013

I recently bought the Clearly Besotted Fairy Jasmine stamp and when I needed to make a card for my daughters friends birthday I thought that it would be the perfect stamp.

I don't own any copics or similar pens, so just used some crayola pencils.

I am loving the stamps from Clearly Besotted and have also bought some of the dies and will be using them soon. I will definitely be buying more from them in the future.

Filofax Flex Planner

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

One of my must do's for this year is to be more organised when it comes to the blog. I would like to make sure that I blog more regularly and consistently as I tend to go through spurts and then nothing.

To help me to do this, I decided to create a planner and decided to use a Filofax. I have been using a Filofax on and off since I was at school and still have a couple of Filofaxes that I have had for quite a few years but when trying to plan it out, it just wasn't working.

After looking into what else I could use, I came across the Filofax Flex in the A5 size and thought that this would be a better idea as it easier for me to write in, being left handed and is more simplified than the Filofax.

I love the colour magenta and to keep it closed I decided to add a mint coloured elasticated hair band. Works perfectly.

Inside I have the notebook that came with the flex and a diary I picked up from Wilkinsons last year. The flex also comes with a jotter and a insert that has a pen loop on it.

On the front of the notebook I decided to add some washi tape to add some colour.

In the notebook, I started to just write all my to dos down altogether but I have just set it up so that I have categories for the to dos, so this is why there aren't anything written down yet. Putting them into categories works better so it's not so overwhelming and I can focus on certain things easier.

The categories I went with are General to do, Home to do, Craft to do, Blog to do.

I added a Martha Stewart Notetabs to each section and then added some washi tape that kind of match the Notetabs and then added the label on top of the washi tape and this added a little pop of colour.

The flex has lots of slots so that you can customise it to how you want it and so I added a Martha Stewart sticky pad behind the notebook and some paper clips.

Behind the diary is where the jotter goes and the one that comes with it doesn't have very many pages so when I had used it up, I added one I bought from Wilkinsons and added some patterned paper to the front to make it a little more pretty.

I am loving the way I have organised the Filofax Flex and added some extras to it. I have started to use the notebook side with the categories and it is working really well. It is quite light to carry compared to a Filofax and has what I need in it and is not bulky.

I have also create a blog planner, which I will showing soon, when I have it the way I would like it.

Do you use a planner? Would love to hear about yours and also if you have any tips to staying organised.

Hope you are having a good week. See you soon.

Easy to make felt food

Thursday, January 24, 2013

For Christmas, I decided I would make some felt food for Hollie to use in the new kitchen she was getting. She has some pretend food already but she didn't really have anything to use in the pots and pans.

I thought that I would try and make some fried eggs, bacon, spaghetti and pasta and here is what I came up with.

To make the eggs I just drew a template for the white and the yolk and then simply sewed them together.
For the bacon I cut strips of felt and then stitched some lines with brown thread.

The eggs fit nicely in the frying pan but the bacon is a little long so will probably cut them down slightly.

To make the pasta, I cut some long strips of felt slightly wavy and then cut some smaller strips from them. I added a few stitches to the small strip and then pulled the thread to make them pinched in the middle to create bow shaped pasta.

The spaghetti was really to make as I simply just cut long thin strips of the beige felt and then scrunched them up a bit and voilà, spaghetti.

They fit nicely in the pan and so now the pans have something to go in them.

These were so easy to make and I just bought some basic felt sheets from Hobbycraft for 50p a sheet, so cheap too.
Also they don't take up too much room and are a great little addition to a play kitchen.

I have also made some other items from felt so will be showing them soon.

Hope you are having a good week.

Handmade Gifts

Monday, January 14, 2013

For Christmas I decided to make some gifts but rather than making paper craft items I decided to make some jewellery and hair accessories instead.

I bought some items to make the jewellery and hair accessories gradually over a few months from Ebay and then set to work making them.

I created some rings with some large rose cabochons and some wooden hearts. Love the rose ring.

I made some earrings with the small rose cabochons and the small chrysanthemum cabochons.

I made some pretty hair pins using the large rose cabochons, wooden hearts and daisies cabochons.

I decided to make some elasticated hair ties with some elastic cut down to 10 inches, tied them and then added some glossy accents glue to stop them fraying. They are great in the hair as they don't snag the hair but also look pretty on the wrist.

As well as the jewellery, I used some of the large cabochons to jazz up some plain push pins to use in a cork board.

and lastly used washi tape on paper clips to create some pretty page flags.

I had great fun making these items and they made some pretty little gifts. They were not expensive to buy the items and were easy to make.

Did you make anything for Christmas presents? Would love to hear if you did and what you thought of the items I made?

Hope you have a good week.

Blessed with happiness and joy card

Thursday, January 10, 2013

Today I had planned to show you the gifts that I had made for Christmas presents but I am having problems with my camera so it will take me a bit longer to sort out before I can post, so I thought I would show you a lovely card.

I realised that I still have a few cards left to show on the blog from the ones I made last year and so I thought I would start off by showing one of the cards I really liked the colours of the end result.

The inspiration for this card came from a Jenni Bowlin journal template which looks like a flower and decided to use it as the main feature of the card.

Love the combination of the pink and red and I tried to bring out the colours more by adding a lovely pink ribbon and bow.

2013 Goals

Wednesday, January 02, 2013

This year I wanted to make some goals but didn't want them to be anything like do more exercise or snack less, I wanted them to be achievable!

I wrote this motto in 2011 and I try to look at it regularly to remind me of the sentences especially if I am sinking a bit in life or struggling, but these word mean a lot to me.

My May Sunshine

So my goals for this year are:

- Meal Planning.  Really want to make sure we as a family try to eat better but with three very different eaters, its proves very difficult. I have an intolerance to oil and milk, my husband is soooo fussy with food and my daughter is kind of following in his footsteps, so it makes my life hard.

- Cleaning Routine. I recently bought a cleaning printable from  Jen at I Heart Organizing, so would like to put that into action as my house isn't very big but with a nearly 5 year old and a husband who hinders my cleaning and can trash the house very quickly, this is a must for me.

- Garden. When the weather is better, I really want to get onto sorting the garden. It isn't too bad but has a one plant in the back garden and 4 in the front. I may love the simplicity but it is lifeless.

Finances. Need to sort out the bills and the paperwork too.

Hollies learning.  Hollie is doing really well in her first year at school and really want to help her with her literacy and numeracy.

Stop procrastinating.  This is a BIG one for me. I love to organise but it can take along time to actually complete the task I want to do so I have been sorting out some planners and printables to keeps me on task, especially for the blog and tasks I want to complete.

I think that they are achievable goals and something that I can get something back from.

If you have made some resolutions or goals this year, I would love to hear them in the comments.
